A Building Shaped by Newquay Harbour
The history of Harbour Hotel is closely connected to the development of Newquay Harbour itself.
The area around the harbour provided natural shelter for what was once a small fishing settlement known as Towan Blystra. Over the centuries, the harbour became an important centre for fishing, trade and maritime activity, helping the town grow into the popular coastal destination we know today.
Historical evidence suggests the building that now houses Harbour Hotel originally played a role in supporting harbour activity. During the nineteenth century, the site is believed to have been associated with grain storage and maritime commerce, while local records also suggest it may have provided accommodation for seafarers travelling through the harbour.
In the 1950s, the building was converted into a hotel and has continued welcoming guests ever since.
